We began serving a new elder group called “La Experiencia Dorada” (The Golden Experience) and
Saturday was the Grandparents Day celebration for these older citizens. The coordinator of this group also has a community day care and also provides an opportunity for the single mothers who she helps to gather. When there are events such as this one for Grandparents Day, the single mothers also come to give a hand and serve. We had the opportunity to give outreach material in a specific way according to the need of each through personal dialogue. This day there was especially opportunities to speak individually with 15 single mothers. Many of them were interested in the Christian material that we publish that helps them parent their children. They were also happy to receive a devotional book for women. We are also beginning to use a small socioeconomic study form with people who attend these community groups. It includes questions on how they use their family and free time. This helps us gather information on their family structure and need and see where we can assist them. In collaboration with Orphan Grain Train we can provide items that families need as they are also learning about God’s plan for families.
We are thankful to Orphan Grain Train and the work accomplished throughout the district of LCMS PSWD congregations in providing packages of new underwear for outreach ministry in Tijuana. Orphan Grain Train was born out of work with Lutheran Hour Ministry and became an independent ministry serving human need worldwide in 1992. They have been close partners with the work of CPTLN Tijuana for 10 years. This year the regional OGT held a district wide “Undie Sunday” with through the collaboration of the women of the LWML was a great success. Some of these gifts were sent back to the warehouse in Nebraska for use in areas of greatest needs. Some of these gifts were shared with Lutheran Border Concerns Ministry in addition to providing these needed items for ourtreach with our CPTLN work in many communities throughout Tijuana. Thank you Orphan Grain Train!
