A one day retreat for mothers and children was a success! 100 people showed up (35 mothers and 65 children). There were women present who had as many as six children. The children had their own event and the mothers had a workshop on the theme of “Single Mothers” and they watched the full length movie of “Magdalena” After the film, there was a time of questions and answers and conversation.
Two of our pastores were present and they led a time of prayer that was of much blessing. One woman received a special prayer that is battling cancer. Another woman asked for prayer for her husband who had been knifed and lived.
After the activities, everyone enjoyed delicious hot dogs and lemonade, custard for dessert.
There were gifts of quilts, Veggie Tales videos and other goodies.
In the midst of tension this was a joyous event. Many of these women have been part of our community outreach group and are unchurched. It was a good time to connect them in a church setting building bridges of trust.
